Part 4/4

If we trace back on the spine of history, the Château served different purposes at different points in time. Château de Chillon is one of the most visited monuments in Switzerland.

Initially built as a military outpost, it stood as a pivot for strategic military actions with commercial value, as it controlled trade routes to France, Germany and Italy.

Château de Chillon was repurposed as a prison/dungeon during the 16th century and then later as a munitions and arms depot. It took to its more docile reincarnation in recent times, where it attracted romantics, poets, writers and artists alike and not to forget the most recent, DSLR carrying tourists, of the present day.

Like any modern day tourist, people in the 18th century flocked to the Château for the artistic inspiration it encouraged. We, personally, were inspired by the combined beauty of nature and the man-made castle coalescing effortlessly at Chillon.

Here, inspiration is like a return gift you receive for visiting Chillon and it maybe different for everyone. It could be history, romance, beauty, stories of artists who made the castle their muse or even the one famous singer who lived nearby and continues to live in the hearts of many worldwide, for the last 50 years! Farrokh Bulsara! The name ring a bell?
