Luzern Interlaken Express – Part 3/3

The final leg of the Golden Pass Line also goes by the name Luzern-Interlaken Express.

Our journey began along the emerald blue waters of Lake Brienz, before something strange happened. At Meringen, the train stopped. Then it started moving in reverse on the same route we came from.

At this point we were pretty sure that we had made a mistake. Maybe we had to get down and switch trains. The train was empty and we thought we missed any announcement for we were lost at the window. Then the train started changing its course, simultaneously Google assured us we were on the right train. Apparently, this happens at Meringen, still not sure why, but we think it is to change tracks to cogwheel for the climb ahead.

For ahead, there is a steep ascent through the mountainous Brünig pass which connects Bernese Oberland with Central Switzerland.

We passed a few smaller typical crystal watered swiss lakes, waterfalls and by the footsteps of Mt.Pilatus (we did not notice it for what it was at that point) before we reached the bigger Lake Luzern or Lucerne.

Welcome to Central Switzerland!
