Part 1/5

Interlaken has two train stations,

  1. Primary – Interlaken Ost/East
  2. Secondary – Interlaken West

Depending on where you stay in the area you may alight at either.

Our recommendation is, do not base yourself in Interlaken. Don’t get us wrong, it is beautiful but also very touristy. But rather check out the nearby villages, far more scenic and less touristy (and less expensive).

So when confounded with the question, Where to setup base? The answer could be in the south of Lake Thun, near Lake Brienz or Brienz town, beautiful lake side village of Iseltwald, scenic mountain side of Wilderswil or any of the numerous picturesque locales.

We based ourselves in Wilderswil, a cutesy village at the base of the Jungfrau region. Idyllic, within 15 mins from Interlaken and far less touristy.

Our stay at the Jungfrau Hotel, was in a room that perhaps had the best view from our balcony. So good is the view that cover image is actually a picture from our room balcony at the Jungfrau Hotel.

The service and quality at this place is top notch and definitely recommended. They gave us travel passes that allowed free travel within the Interlaken region (most local hotels provide these passes).

What we did first after reaching our room is not what one would do when there is such beauty on display. But we had soaked in a lot of beautiful sceneries in the day and were genuinely tired. So once we reached our rooms, we just pulled down the curtains and snoozed.

Too much beauty to absorb in a day! Now is that a boon or a bane?
