When the plane is just above the Nice airport, you are blessed with the most outstanding views of the Riviera (with a view of the Alps), unmatched even by the view from Castle Hill. The Nice airport is central to the Riviera and is a petit airport with good connectivity to the city centre and other parts of the Riviera. The first thing to do once you land and are settled, is to get to the local ticket centre within the airport from where you can buy a 10 ticket booklet for 10 euros which will allow you to avail public transport in and around Nice. If you don’t buy it, each ticket will cost you 1.5 euros (also you would need to carry change😓). Once you are done with the tickets, you can hop on the public buses/trams to get to the city centre or even book an @uber, which we opted for both ways and it was super convenient. In fact, one of our most memorable moments in Nice was with Jorge, a senior gentleman who was driving our @uber to the airport for an early morning flight, we were just casually chatting about our respective daily routines and he told us that he drives @Uber because he enjoys it and only does so from 5am – 12pm noon. We prodded further to ask him what does he do after 12pm and his answer to this question was something we never expected (part reason we thought we heard it wrong). He simply answered ‘I enjoy with my 2 children’. The real reason we could not understand it the first time is because in our daily rat races we cannot fathom the thought of enjoying time with our children/family/friends/ourselves and yet there are people who are doing just that and this begs of us to reconsider what are we running after in the first place. That brief moment with Jorge, did make us re-think and we hope this encourages you to re-think as well 😊
Pro tip
1. Carry cash in Nice, you will need it more than you need it in Paris.
2. Learn atleast basic French, this will help you enjoy more pleasant meetings with the locals.
3. It would be a major faux pas if you were to forget your sunglasses and sunscreen
