Switzerland is a small country in land mass but the biggest in the world if we are to measure the density of scenic beauty.
Being small has its advantages for the distances can be covered quickly and on one of the legs of our journey we had some spare time to kill on the way to our destination. We were unsure if we should spend it exploring Bern or pay a visit to Chateau de Chillon in Montreux.
On a coin toss we decided it would be the latter. Before we got there however we needed to make a stop at Lausanne which was the transit pivot for the next part of our journey. We got a train from Geneva to Lausanne, deposited our luggage at the Lausanne train station and booked return tickets to Veytaux-Chillon the closest station to the castle. A very senior railstaff member helped us not only with booking the tickets and finding the luggage storage location but also went out of his way to arrange for change money which we did not have. Had it not been for his kindness we would have missed our direct train from Lausanne to Veytaux-Chillon (direct trains are hourly and if missed you need to take a detour).
In 30 minutes we were at Veytaux-Chillon station, the best transit train station we ever visited!
