Part 1/4

Château de Chillon sits pretty on its own personal petit island. Depending on how you reach there you could arrive from Veytaux-Chillon train station on the north, the bus stop on the motorway opp. the castle or the Chillon ferry terminal on the south. There is also parking area if you are driving.

The best views of Château de Chillon are from the outside and each of these routes give you a different perspective.

We personally like the view from the north. Realist painter Gustave Courbet seems to be in agreement, for of all the different version of the Château he drew, the most famous The Château de Chillon, 1874 on oil canvas is of a view from the North.

While we don’t know why he liked this view but we liked it only because of the backdrop it provides to the castle in the pictures. On a bright day you can capture the Dents du midi (teeth of the South) mountains from the Mont Blanc mastiff in the backdrop with the castle sitting pretty on the calm waters of Lac Léman.
