Part 2/5

Our agenda for the day was to visit Harder Kulm at the Top of Interlaken. From our hotel in Wilderswil, we walked to the bus stop 5 mins away, to board the bus to Interlaken. While there are quite a few things to do at Interlaken, Harder Kulm is its most famous resident.

Harder Kulm is like the crown of Interlaken, at a height of about 1322 meters above sea level. The highlight is the cantilever observation deck more famously known as Zwei-Seen-Steg or the Two Lakes Bridge, that overlooks Interlaken and it’s two lakes as well as the Mountain ranges of the Bernese Oberland.

After a short walk to the Harder Kulm Train station, we boarded the Harderbahn funicular(100+ years old) up the mountain. A quick 10-15 mins ride, scenic but less so compared to the Montenvers ride in Chamonix. The walk from the train station at the top up to the observation deck however, is far more charming and pleasantly calming as well. We took breaks not because we needed it but we just wanted to breathe in the calmness of the place a bit more.

As we made our way to the observation deck we noticed there were several hiking trails starting from here, and although we did not see anyone in hiking gear it sure must be a nice trail. We also came across the Panorama restaurant which looks more like a mountain top castle or a temple/church that has a huge sun terrace. Although, we did not try the food there but we have heard it’s a good place to unwind and try traditional swiss dishes.

We visited Harder Kulm not for the funicular/restaurant/hike trails but, for Zwei-Seen-Steg and that is what we focused on.
